Resensa

Privacy Policy

Last updated: May 2026

This Privacy Policy describes what data Resensa collects, how we use it, and how we protect it. Resensa is a browser extension for AI-powered analysis of YouTube videos.

1. What data we collect

Resensa collects the minimum data necessary to operate the service:

Authentication: when you sign in to Resensa, we collect your email address to identify your account. Sign-in uses a one-time code sent to your email — we do not store passwords. The email is used solely to identify your account, send sign-in codes, and contact you about service-critical changes (e.g. account deletion). We do not use it for marketing.

Local browser storage: Resensa stores the following data locally in your browser via `chrome.storage.local`. This data never leaves your device unless you explicitly trigger a sync (e.g. opening a chat that lives on our servers):

- your authentication session (so you stay signed in);

- your preferred summary language;

- a cache of recently processed video IDs and their summaries (to avoid regenerating them).

You can clear this data at any time by removing the extension or via your browser's site-data controls.

YouTube video IDs: when you actively use Resensa on a video, we store the video ID to provide our core features. We do not passively track your viewing history or collect any other data from the YouTube interface.

AI conversation history: your questions and AI-generated answers for each video are saved to provide the Q&A history feature.

Analytics (Umami): we collect anonymous, cookie-free usage analytics (page views, events) via Umami to improve the product experience. This data cannot be used to identify you personally.

2. How we use your data

All requests from the extension are sent to our backend at `api.resensa.io` over HTTPS. The backend orchestrates AI processing through OpenRouter and stores chat history in our database.

Authentication: your email is used to identify your account, deliver one-time sign-in codes, and manage your session.

Core service: video IDs and conversation history are essential to providing Resensa's features — summaries, Q&A, and video navigation.

Product improvement: anonymous Umami analytics help us understand how the service is used and make it better.

Payment processing: payments are handled by NowPayments. We do not store your payment details.

3. Third-party services

We do not sell or share your personal data with third parties. The following services are used to operate Resensa:

OpenRouter (privacy policy) — routes requests to AI models for generating summaries and answers. Video content and your anonymized messages are transmitted via HTTPS. OpenRouter may process this data to provide AI responses. No personal identifiers (email) are sent.

NowPayments (privacy policy) — payment processing. We do not store your payment information.

Umami (privacy policy) — anonymous, privacy-focused web analytics. No personal data is collected.

None of these services receive your personal data (email or conversation history) for their own purposes.

4. Public sharing

When you click "Share" on a conversation, we generate a public read-only snapshot at `resensa.io/s/<id>` and copy the link to your clipboard. The snapshot contains the chat content as it existed at that moment. Anyone with the link can read it. You can revoke a snapshot at any time from the dashboard ("Manage snapshots") — once revoked, the link returns 404.

5. Data retention

Your conversation history and account data are stored on secure servers for as long as your account exists.

Chat history deletion: you can request deletion of your conversation history by emailing support@resensa.io.

Account deletion: you can request full account deletion by emailing support@resensa.io. Upon deletion, all associated data (account info, video IDs, conversation history) will be permanently removed within 30 days.

6. Cookies

We use necessary cookies and local storage to keep you signed in and for the technical operation of the service. Umami analytics is cookie-free and does not track users across websites. We do not use third-party advertising cookies.

7. Your rights

You have the right to:

• Request a copy of your data.

• Request correction or deletion of your data.

• Request deletion of your conversation history.

• Request full account deletion.

• Withdraw consent for data processing.

To exercise any of these rights, contact: support@resensa.io

8. Policy changes

We may update this policy. The current version is always available on this page.
